Taking Time for the Temple

Last Sunday was our Stake Conference and the Seattle Temple president and his wife spoke to us. They reminded me how important it is to get to the temple. When the girls were younger, Craig and I were better about getting to the temple almost monthly (and we even had to pay for a babysitter back then!). But the last few years we've really slacked off. I can come up with many excuses, but all it really comes down to is taking time to get there. After conference, Craig and I decided to make a better effort at getting over there, after all, it's only two hours away, a small drive when you consider how far many people have to travel to get to a temple.

So, yesterday, I had the day off for Veterans Day and was busily making my list of things to do for my crazy busy day and the phone rang. It was Craig, calling from work. "So I can get off at 1:00 today and we could go to the temple if you want." Hmmm....do I forget my huge to-do list and go where I'm supposed to go, or do I make up lots of excuses about how much I have to do and how little time there is to get it all done?

We ended up leaving right at 1:00 and made it to the 4:00 session. I am soooo glad we went. The drive was good for us. It gave us time to talk and share feelings about different things going on in our lives. It really helps our marriage to have a solid four hours of nothing to do but talk!

I love the feeling I get when I walk into the temple. No words can describe the peace you feel with the Spirit so near. We were able to be the witness couple and that made it even more special. I wished we could have stayed longer and enjoyed the peace and serenity of leaving the cares and stresses of daily life behind. I'm so thankful Craig called and I changed my plans for the day. I was even able to get everything done that I needed to before we left! It was a Terrific Tuesday!!

you're a good example. i'm only 15 minutes away and I should be better about going more than once a month.
